Da Nang launches the first Lion-Unicorn-Dragon museum in Vietnam.

Appearing in the cultural life of the people of Vietnam for centuries, the art of Dragon-Lion dance is a unique folk performance activity, often appearing during major holidays such as Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan), Mid-Autumn Festival (Trung Thu), festivals, and opening ceremonies to convey messages of luck and prosperity. With the goal of honoring this distinctive folk art form, the Sun World Ba Na Hills tourist area has built the first Dragon-Lion Dance Museum in Vietnam, covering nearly 1,500m2 , offering unique and interesting cultural experiences, contributing to bringing traditional art closer to domestic and international tourists.

Museum of Dragon Lion Dance Art located at Hoi An Station 2

Visiting the Museum of Dragon Lion Dance Art, visitors will be guided through a journey of discovery of the unique characteristics of this art form in all three regions of North, Central, and South Vietnam, each region carrying its own distinct cultural color.

Entering the space dedicated to Northern Dragon Lion Dance Art, you will feel the simple yet majestic beauty when admiring models of Northern Dragon Lion Dance, lions with drums, masks, Chu Teu, and lion dance props. Northern Dragon Lion Dance Art bears a strong imprint of traditional folk culture, closely associated with village festivals, communal houses, temples, and sacred sacrificial rituals. The items displayed in this section are crafted by Northern artisans, showcasing traditional, simple, and less innovative beauty. More than just a dance performance, Northern Dragon Lion Dance is an expression of belief – spirit – and reverence for ancestors, with the belief in bringing good fortune, warding off evil spirits, and praying for national peace and prosperity.

Visitors will learn about the art of Dragon Lion Dance from the three regions: North - Central - South

Continuing the journey, visitors will explore the Dragon Lion Dance of the Central region, where this folk dance art is widely known in Hoi An with the image of the Heavenly Dog (Thien Cau). This is a characteristic type of folk dance, appearing over 100 years ago and associated with spiritual life, praying for peace and abundant harvests. In this area, visitors will admire models of Heavenly Dogs (Thien Cau), Lion Heads (Dau Lan), and Dragons created by artisan Nguyen Hung - the only artisan making Lion and Heavenly Dog heads in Hoi An City.

Each zone features unique cultural characteristics

With a more liberal and fresh style compared to the North and Central regions, Southern Lan Su Rong stands out with vibrant colors, elaborate patterns, large lion heads, and diverse expressions. Visitors can explore glowing phosphorescent Dragon models, Tu Linh (Dragon - Unicorn - Tortoise - Phoenix), Unicorns, and unicorn dance costumes. These items are made by artisan Le Hong - Head of the Lan Su Rong troupe of Bay Ba Temple, An Giang.

Exploring this zone, visitors will understand why Southern Lan Su Rong is not just an artistic performance, but also an indispensable part of festivals, grand openings, Lunar New Year... wishing to bring prosperity, luck, and peace. This is a vivid testament to the cultural exchange and the strong vitality of folk art in the dynamic Southern land.

Visitors can experience mask painting and shop for souvenirs.

Not only can visitors experience and explore the unique cultural aspects of the Lan Su Rong art, but they can also participate in interesting activities at the Museum such as mask painting and souvenir shopping.

Sharing about the idea of creating the first Lan Su Rong Museum in Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Lam An, Director of Sun World Ba Na Hills, expressed: “ The Lan – Su – Rong Museum project has long been cherished by us with the desire to contribute a small part to promote and bring Vietnamese traditional culture closer to domestic and international tourists.
