At the foot of the majestic Fansipan mountain, hidden amidst the pristine beauty of the primeval nature, is Ban May, full of joy and laughter. If you want to experience the diverse customs and traditions of the ethnic groups in the Northwest region, don't forget to visit this common village of the ethnic minorities in the highlands.
Sa Pa's Unique Cultural Convergence Space
Sa Pa, with its four-season natural beauty and the cultural diversity of its ethnic minorities, is a wonderful tourist destination. However, the complex mountainous terrain and the long distances between villages can make it difficult for visitors to fully explore the unique cultural aspects here. For this reason, Ban May (Cloud Village) at Sun World Fansipan Legend was created, connecting the cultural beauty of the Northwest region within a concentrated space.
This is the only place in Sa Pa where you can experience the life of ethnic groups from the highlands (Hmong Sa Pa, Hmong Dien Bien, Xa Pho, Tay, Giay, Red Dao (Dao Do), Thai, Ha Nhi) in the same day, at the same location.
Here, the traditional colors of the ethnic groups are preserved in the most authentic way. The ancient houses of May Village were meticulously brought from villages in Sa Pa and restored by local artisans themselves. The living space is always warm with the hearth fire, with daily life and customs unchanged for hundreds of years among the ethnic people. Tourists can explore the process of making brocade, weaving fabric, making incense, printing patterns with beeswax, rattan and bamboo weaving... from highland artisans. Everything at May Village is created to give tourists the most authentic Sa Pa and Northwest feelings.
Enjoy a "lavish feast" of the Northwest
Your trip will not be complete without the experience of a dinner at May Village. The best ethnic specialties are enjoyed in the characteristic bamboo grove, stilt house, and stone wall setting of the village. It is most captivating when sitting by the flickering campfire, with the cheerful laughter and conversation of friends and family.
The menu at Ban May village is extremely rich and attractive, from fragrant grilled dishes to savory soups and hot pots with the bold flavors of the mountains. Adults will love thang co, stir-fried buffalo meat with forest bamboo shoots, crispy and sweet local chicken hot pot, or enjoy banana flower and pig ear salad with a cup of sweet, potent wine. Meanwhile, children will be delighted with crispy fried local pork and sticky rice with sesame salt - simple yet incredibly delicious dishes.
Experience traditional crafts
Experience creating the colorful brocade patterns on the traditional costumes of the local people
Mentioning Tay Bac (Northwest Vietnam), everyone immediately thinks of the colorful brocade patterns on the traditional costumes of the local people. However, not everyone has had the chance to see firsthand, or to thoroughly understand the process of creating these beautiful shirts and skirts of the ethnic groups.
For example, a Dao bride's traditional costume takes many years to hand-embroider, while the Xa Pho people, to create skirts and shirts considered the "pinnacle of art," must personally harvest fresh beads, weave the fabric, and then embroider them onto the garments in an extremely elaborate manner.
Here, tourists will be directly guided by local people on each stitch, and can personally make unique souvenirs. In addition, many crafts such as fabric dyeing, drum making... will be vividly and authentically recreated.
Immerse yourself in unique artistic performances
Every day of the week, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1:50 PM to 4:00 PM, at Ban May, there will be unique Northwest Vietnam artistic performances, such as cultural exchanges with artisans from the Tay and Xa Pho ethnic groups, and minishows themed "Little Sapa", "Northwest blooming season", "Fansipan love"...
Visitors will not be able to stop tapping their feet to the familiar Northwest Vietnam melodies that have been refreshed with vibrant energy, or join in the joyful and bustling atmosphere of the bamboo dance performance. Visiting on weekends, you will also have the opportunity to meet artisans from ethnic minorities performing traditional folk songs.
Embodying the young men and women of ethnic minorities
One of the most beloved experiences for tourists visiting Sa Pa is taking photos in the traditional costumes of ethnic minorities. When you come to Ban May, visitors will be dressed in costumes meticulously woven and sewn by local people themselves, with authentic materials, designs, and colors, not mixed with any other styles.
Through this, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the meaning and function of these costumes, as well as capture photos that truly represent the "identity" of Sa Pa's ethnic minority people.
Extend the endless experiences at Fansipan
Furthermore, just a few minutes' walk from Ban May, visitors can reach the Fansipan cable car station, the starting point for the journey to explore the roof of Indochina. The cable car takes visitors across overlapping clouds and mountains, golden terraced fields stretching to the horizon, clear Muong Hoa stream, and hundreds-of-year-old spruce trees…
The cable car cabin glides over picturesque scenery, revealing a rolling white sea of clouds covering Fansipan peak. Autumn is the ideal season for cloud hunting, and the cool weather is also very pleasing to visitors when exploring vibrant red-orange fields of flowers under a deep blue sky, visiting the sacred spiritual cultural complex, and participating in a solemn flag-raising ceremony on Fansipan peak.
Nestled at the foot of the mountain, Ban May attracts tourists with its delicious and attractive cuisine, ancient houses, the simple living customs of ethnic minorities, or festivals rich in indigenous ethnic culture. Every corner of the village holds cultural stories, simple yet profound beauties of the highland people. Not only that, attractive offers to explore the sacred Fansipan peak make Ban May an unmissable destination this November.
