“Is this really Vietnam?” – reporter Choi Hyun-tae of Segye Ilbo, one of South Korea's reputable daily newspapers, could not hide his amazement upon arriving at Sunset Town (Hoang Hon Town) in Phu Quoc.
The most romantic place in Vietnam
Recently, the newspaper Segye Ilbo published an article recounting the journey of exploring Sunset Town in Phu Quoc by reporter Choi Hyun-tae, with a thought-provoking opening question: “Have you ever visited Sunset Town – the miniature Europe of Vietnam?”
In his perception, the entire Sunset Town appears as a vibrant fairy-tale world, where every street and corner evokes renowned European architectural landmarks – from the San Marco bell tower of Venice, the Arc de Triomphe of Paris, to Mediterranean-style squares and cobblestone streets reminiscent of southern Italy.
Choi Hyun-tae's first stop in Sunset Town was the iconic clock tower located in the central square of La Festa. He was particularly impressed with the European-style architectural design, along with the appearance of red vintage buggy cars – vehicles used as tourist taxis to take visitors around the town. Not just visually, Mr. Choi highly appreciated the service quality and the friendliness of the service staff here. According to him, the drivers always greeted with warm smiles, and were even willing to let visitors try sitting in the car and take souvenir photos, even if they weren't using the service.
Leaving La Festa Square, Choi Hyun-tae continued to explore the S-shaped winding ceramic stairs opposite the clock tower – a "check-in" spot that attracts many young tourists. Here, he encountered a bustling scene with many young girls in white dresses posing for photos, creating a lively, vibrant atmosphere like the fashion streets in Italy. He likened this place to the fashion capital Milan – so beautiful that tourists have to queue up to get a "picture of a lifetime".
One of the destinations that left the deepest impression on him was Kiss Bridge . The work is inspired by the painting “The Creation of Adam” on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican and the Vietnamese legend of Nguu Lang Chuc Nu, showcasing a unique cultural intersection between East and West. The unique design of the bridge, with two branches connecting through a 50cm gap, was described by him as “the most romantic place to confess love when sunset falls”.
Unique experiences in Phu Quoc
After immersing himself in the vibrant sunset scenery and pastel-colored streets of Sunset Town, reporter Choi Hyun-tae continued his exploration by enjoying the 'only in Phu Quoc' experiences – namely the Guinness World Record multimedia show “ Kiss of the Sea ”. Inspired by the love story between a Phu Quoc boy and a girl from the galaxy, the performance combines sound, light, 3D effects, and spectacular action scenes that captivate the audience. “The content is somewhat familiar, but the performance is incredibly spectacular,” he commented. Especially, the 7-minute fireworks display that concluded the show left an unforgettable impression on him and other tourists.
A reporter from South Korea also shared a memorable experience when traveling by the world's longest three-rope cable car to reach Hon Thom Island. The journey suspended in mid-air at a height of 164m gave him a feeling of both excitement and suspense. From the cable car cabin, he took in the panoramic view of the beautiful and bustling An Thoi port with its boats, the vast, deep blue ocean, and the lush green primeval forests.
“As soon as you set foot on Hon Thom Island, you will encounter crowds of people flocking from everywhere, despite the scorching sun characteristic of a tropical island,” shared reporter Choi. He described Hon Thom as an “entertainment paradise” with countless attractive activities that tourists should not miss. In addition, he was particularly impressed with Aquatopia water park, which brings together a series of thrilling games in a space divided into 6 themed zones. After the bustling experiences, Choi went to Ciao Beach Club, where he enjoyed a relaxing moment with street food and a cool glass of Sun KraftBeer amidst the vibrant island life.
Besides modern and vibrant experiences, reporter Choi Hyun-tae also took time to visit Ho Quoc Pagoda (chua Ho Quoc) – a large pagoda located on a high hill overlooking the sea, considered the spiritual symbol protecting the land of Phu Quoc. In the article, he not only detailed his exploration journey but also expressed sincere emotions about a Phu Quoc that is modern, artistic, yet still preserves its cultural and spiritual depth.
