Traveling to Quang Ninh in the autumn-winter season, these experiences are unmissable
11/08/2025
Unlike the sweltering summer days, traveling to Quang Ninh in late autumn and early winter is an extremely appealing experience for the following reasons:
Great Weather
As the northernmost province in the Northeast of Vietnam, Quang Ninh possesses a tropical climate with 4 distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. If the summer is hot and rainy, the autumn is cool, sunny, and clear. Winter is chilly, with little rain, and temperatures usually range from 16-18 degrees Celsius, along with low humidity, making this place immersed in a misty, incredibly romantic, and magical fog in winter.
Easy Travel
Traveling to Quang Ninh has never been easier. The heritage region is only about 200km from Hanoi, making it an ideal weekend destination for visitors from the capital and surrounding provinces.
From Hanoi, by motorbike or car, you can take two routes: Route 5 - Bac Ninh - National Highway 18 - Pha Lai - Chi Linh - Dong Trieu - Uong Bi - Ha Long; or Noi Bai Airport - Bac Ninh - National Highway 18A via Pha Lai - Sao Do - Dong Trieu - Uong Bi - Ha Long. The most time-saving way you can choose is the Hanoi - Hai Phong - Ha Long expressway, taking only about 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you prefer a more leisurely option, you can take a bus or limousine with ticket prices starting from around 150,000 VND.
Van Don International Airport, Quang Ninh
From the Central and Southern regions, you travel by plane from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Phu Quoc... to Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) or Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong), and from here travel by car along the most beautiful highways in the country to reach Ha Long. The travel time from the airports to Ha Long takes only about half an hour.
Endless Experiences
Admire Ha Long Bay, beautiful as a poem: At the end of October, the famous international magazine Condé Nast Traveler announced the 51 most beautiful destinations in the world, including Ha Long Bay. According to this magazine's assessment, the reason tourists love this place so much is the jade-green clear water, combined with vast limestone islands and tropical trees, creating an incredibly beautiful scene. Just standing on a boat drifting on the Bay, you can personally experience the surreal beauty of this "emerald" covered in mist in winter.
Ha Long Bay was recently ranked among the 51 most beautiful destinations in the world by Condé Nast Traveler
Another prestigious American magazine, Forbes, recently suggested 24 must-try tourist destinations for travelers worldwide in 2024. In this list, Vietnam has a sole representative: Ha Long Bay. Sharing the same view as Condé Nast Traveler, traveling the Bay in autumn and winter by cruise is an experience worth trying when visiting here, as you will be immersed in the rare tranquility of the Bay, to admire the magnificent and splendid natural masterpiece in the sunset.
Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu Temple, Ha Long, Quang Ninh
Peace and tranquility in the land of Buddha: Besides Ha Long Bay, when mentioning Quang Ninh, people immediately think of the Buddhist land with Yen Tu, Ngoa Van, Cua Ong Temple, or the sacred Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu Temple. Visiting the sacred mountains as autumn turns to winter, visitors will fully enjoy the pristine beauty of the mountains and forests, find tranquility listening to themselves, with peaceful steps on a spiritual journey in this sacred land. Especially from autumn, Yen Tu will be the time when important ceremonies are held to commemorate Emperor Tran Nhan Tong. Therefore, visitors coming here on pilgrimage are not only seeking the land of Buddha but also cultivating their minds and souls, and slowing down amidst the daily hustle and bustle.
Onsen bathing at the Quang Hanh hot spring is Vietnam's most valuable.
Onsen bathing, enjoying the essence of heaven and earth. Japanese people bathe in onsen all four seasons. But in autumn and winter, when the weather turns cold, immersing yourself in hot springs, feeling your muscles relax in the warm water is a truly authentic and enjoyable experience. And you don't need to travel far to Japan; right here in Quang Hanh, Quang Ninh, at the Yoko Onsen Quang Hanh resort, you can immerse yourself in Vietnam's most valuable hot spring, surrounded by lush, tranquil scenery with a distinctly Japanese flair.
Onsen bathing in the cool winter weather in Quang Hanh is considered a "specialty" of Quang Ninh in recent years. The experience not only helps increase body temperature, dilate blood vessels, facilitate blood circulation, and improve swelling and joint inflammation but also effectively creates a balance of body-mind-spirit, preserving youthfulness with skin that feels rejuvenated.
Sun World Ha Long is applying a ticket price for Dragon Park of only 150,000 VND/person
Endless fun at the largest amusement park in the North: Besides quiet experiences, visitors who prefer "noise" can choose the Sun World Ha Long complex in the Bai Chay area, Ha Long. The morning is suitable for freely "going wild" with 20 games ranging from ground to air at Dragon Park with only 150,000 VND/person, for both adults and children, have lunch right here with 3 restaurant options offering rich cuisine. The afternoon is the time to glide on the Queen Cable Car across the heritage bay, admire the panoramic view of Ha Long from above and explore the Mystic Hill area with Japanese cultural space at the Japanese Garden, Koi bridge, and the new "Sword Forging Village" area. Outstanding at Sun World Ha Long is also the experience of sitting on the Sun Wheel to admire the majestic natural scenery of Hon Gai Ha Long, Bai Chay Bridge, Cai Lan Port in the romantic afternoon light.
Banh cuon cha muc (grilled squid cake rolls)
Eat until you forget the way back with diverse specialties: Compared to a "miniature Vietnam" with full sea, mountains, and plains, Quang Ninh's cuisine is also the richest and most diverse in the country. On cold winter days, don't be foolish to refuse a tour to "eat all of Quang Ninh". Besides dishes made from seafood such as mud crabs, mantis shrimp, peanut worms, geoduck clams, shrimp, crab, fish, squid, various snails... which are characteristic of the coastal region, famous breakfast and snack dishes like banh cuon cha muc (grilled squid cake rolls), hot clam porridge, or nationwide famous pearl yogurt will surely be the reason for you to return to Quang Ninh many times./.
