Ha Long heads into one of its best travel months, according to two global travel heavyweights

In an article updated on October 11 on the best times to visit Vietnam, leading international travel magazine Travel + Leisure devoted a section to cruising Ha Long Bay. The US publication identified April, October and November as particularly favorable months to explore the bay, when conditions are typically warm, sunny and dry.

Ha Long Bay in autumn, when the weather is milder and drier, is recommended by both Travel + Leisure and Lonely Planet as one of the best times to explore the heritage site.

That recommendation is echoed by Lonely Planet, one of the world’s best-known travel guide publishers. In its advice on the best time to visit Vietnam, the guide notes that October and November are particularly favorable for exploring the limestone islands of Ha Long Bay and neighboring Bai Tu Long Bay, thanks to mild temperatures and more dry days than rainy ones.

For travelers considering where to go in November, the endorsement from two major international travel names makes Ha Long a compelling option.

The appeal begins with the experience at the heart of the heritage site itself. Described by Travel + Leisure as one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders, Ha Long is known for its emerald waters and dramatic limestone towers.

Milder weather makes it more comfortable to take in the scenery from a cruise deck, paddle a kayak or explore the bay’s caves along the way.

For a quieter experience, the US magazine suggests choosing an overnight cruise that ventures deeper into the bay rather than limiting the trip to a daytime excursion. An afternoon among the limestone karsts, dinner on the water and waking the next morning surrounded by the heritage landscape offer a slower way to take in Ha Long’s scenery.

Ha Long International Cruise Port in Bai Chay is one of the departure points for journeys into the bay.

A November getaway can also extend well beyond the water.

In Bai Chay, Ha Long International Cruise Port, developed by Sun Group, serves as one of the gateways for cruises around the bay while offering convenient access to nearby entertainment, dining and seaside resort areas.

After a cruise, visitors can switch perspectives with a ride on the Queen Cable Car at Sun World Ha Long.

The cable car crosses the entrance to Cua Luc Bay, opening up views of Bai Chay Bridge and the city’s waterfront neighborhoods before arriving at Ba Deo Hill.

Here, the Japanese Garden, with its koi pond, black pine trees and landscaped features, offers a more relaxed setting for an easy stroll — particularly well suited to a leisurely autumn or winter break.

From Ba Deo Hill, visitors can take in Ha Long from a different perspective while combining bay views with leisure and entertainment experiences.

As the city lights come on, VUI-Fest Ha Long in the Lighthouse area of Bai Chay offers another mix of dining, shopping and entertainment.

Visitors can spend the evening sampling street food or head to Sun Bavaria Ha Long for dinner with family and friends, extending the day rather than ending the itinerary as soon as the bay cruise is over.

After dark, Bai Chay remains lively with waterfront dining, shopping and entertainment.

For travelers looking to combine sightseeing with wellness, the journey can continue to Quang Hanh.

Surrounded by a mountainous landscape, Hilton Quang Hanh Onsen Resort offers rooms and villas with private onsen facilities, creating an opportunity to unwind in natural hot mineral water.

It is an especially fitting addition to a trip as northern Vietnam moves into its cooler season.

Natural hot springs amid the mountains of Quang Hanh offer a relaxing retreat as northern Vietnam enters its cooler months.

From overnight cruises and cable-car views to hot-spring retreats, Ha Long offers enough variety for travelers to shape an autumn-winter getaway around their own interests.

And with November just around the corner, the coming month is one that international travel experts are recommending as an ideal time to begin that journey.
